 Latest Review :   "Stayed 4 nights at the Applegarth Hotel with my partner.on arrival we were greeted warmly at reception. We soon noticed how clean the hotel was.we stayed in room 11, the room was spacious & bright with the most amazing bathroom.the atmosphere at the hotel is very relaxed.the restaurant offers a good choice of options for breakfast & the food is of a high standard.  Latest Review :   "Having stayed here before we wanted somewhere special for my 60th birthday, and we were not to be disappointed. We could not fault anything about this amazing hotel. Hosts Caroline and Jonathan make you feel so very welcome, and nothing is too much trouble. We will most certainly be booking another return visit in the future. Set in in its own beautiful grounds which are immaculately maintained, it is so peaceful and quiet, although it’s only a short walk to the centre of Windermere."

All the staff are great and a big thank you to everyone - reception, waiters / bar staff and great gardeners who keep the grounds perfect. A massive thankyou to Kimia who was wonderful and loved our black spaniel molly. Kimia is destined to go far, I know she is on placement while studying, but I hope that when she qualifies she will return to Cragwood and we will see her again.  Latest Review :   "We have just returned from a 3 night stay at Hillthwaite Hotel. We stayed in Room 210 (Langdale) and our friends stayed in Room 15. We had an amazing time. The hotel is a little tricky to find so keep your eyes peeled for the driveway off Thornbarrow Road (although it is signposted). There were enough parking bays at the hotel, but the area is a little small, making it a bit tricky to manoeuvre in some spots. We were welcomed upon arrival and we had a cream tea prior to checking in (which we had prebooked)."

Excellent experience

Good, fresh food well cooked, great value for money. Attentive service but not fussy and very well kept beer! As I found out later that they are award winners. The log fire was lovely and cosy and certainly contributed to the warm friendly pub. We will definitely be back, and not just for our 10% discount.

Home cooked food at its best

This is a lovely little pub, with lovely home cooked food. The menu has plenty for everyone, and there is a specials board each day. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. . Whilst there is a large car park across road, it can be a bit tricky crossing the road at bust times.

Fabulous Food

Popped in for an evening meal as we were staying at a local hotel. The food was excellent. In fact the food was better than some meals I have had in certain restaurants. A huge surprise from a local Public House. Will definitely be back for their Sunday Roast. Thank you !

Gorgeous country pub

Just what you needed on a miserable Misty cold day. Roaring fire and cosy oldie worldy decor. Lots of parking. Very pleasant staff. The fish butty ( on a brioche bun) & mushy peas also with skinny fries. The beer battered haddock was beautiful. The goosnargh chicken BLT on brioche was also spot on and will definitely return. Highly recommended

A wonderful experience

My husband and I have just had a wonderful meal at this gastro pub. We chose the roast beef & Yorkshire pudding with vegetables. For dessert I had sticky toffee pudding with ice cream whilst my husband had rum & rain ice cream with a rum to pour over the top. Everything was freshly made (no frozen stuff) It was the best meal we have ever had in ages. We highly recommend paying the pub a visit but book a table first. Very friendly welcoming staff.

Delicious lunch 5 stars

OMG the food is so good firstly Lindsay the chef pub landlady is the best cook ever with the help of Steve her assistant cook they just the make the most tasty food. I had a salmon seafood medley In champagne sauce and my husband had the lamb shank with the most yummy creamy mashed potatoes! And they do the most amazing homemade pies!

Absolutely delicious.

Great menu choice, vegetarian, and vegan options, I had the mushroom and halloumi burger it was a tasty sensation, my husband had the steak n ale pie he said it was packed with steak. Staff are friendly and very helpful. I love that we had time between courses I hate being rushed. Plenty of drinks to chose from and they even do cocktails to. You can sit out at the front and loose yourself in the breathtaking scenery but on rainy days there is also a lovely outside botanical covered area.

Great value

Under new management and thought me an the missus would try out the new menu. The beer in here is always top notch and the food was great really good value for money. Had 2 courses a few drink bill was about £40 well worth it and just what we needed. Will definitely be back. Thanks very much guys

Excellent all round.

Visited today for Sunday Lunch. It was our 4th visit here and worth the 1 hour drive as the food is in a different league to similar establishments near me. I would go as far as to say the quality of the food rivals the Barn at Moor Hall which has a Michelin Star. The Bill was £150 for 3 courses for 3 people including drinks which for the standard is very acceptable. Service was very good and the majority of the staff are very young so well done to them and very well done to the kitchen.

Fantastic stopover.

We arrived late due to traffic, well after the restaurant was closed. However Anthony and his team made us very welcome and even prepared us a lovely sandwich plater. The family room we had booked was prepared lovely and very comfortable to sleep in. This overnight stay was then finished off with a fantastic breakfast. Thank you Anthony and your great team

Centrally located and comfortable stay.

A lovely hotel centrally located. We parked on a council car park across from this Cardiff hotel which was fine. Room was large and comfortable, and the shower was brilliant. Breakfast was lovely, lots of choice on the menu and staff were very friendly and attentive. We have already booked our return visit!
